Hi David: Thanks for your quick reply on this. I tried to access the link that you attached and it didn't take me to a specific site. Do you have different link that I can go to for these articles?

laser peer reviewed research article
I had a science teacher in last month with his minature schnauzer with acute IVDD. Applied standard medical and rehab program for an IVDD (HEPs, mobility restrictions, NSAIDs, and laser). Owner was very dubious about the laser even after I gave an explanation of its function and effects. He claimed ...

knee brace for 2.5 kg dog
Hello Everyone: A colleague has contacted me about measuring a 2.5 kg minature poodle for a knee brace for a complete CCL tear. The owner wants a brace and does not want surgery. I am concerned that a dog of this small is going to struggle moving around with any knee brace as I suspect it will be to...

Re: Gracilis injury in a flyball dog
Thank you so much for all the rehab. I will pass on this information to the owner. The owner is absolutely fabulous in doing the gracillus stretches (and the dog is extremely compliant) and has a good feel for how far this muscle can appropriately stretch. I'll keep you posted on how everything goes...

recommendations for stifle brace
I am about to see a large 15 year pitbull that apparently tore his ACL. As far as I know, the dog has not had a stifle xray, so osteosarcoma is not ruled out. The dog sounds incredibly aggressive according to the rDVM's notes, so I'm sure xrays can't be taken without sedation. The dog has been on ca...

Re: dislocated hip - how long to wait before starting rehab
Hi David and Laurie: Yes, this helps alot. If this was an open reduction, I am assuming that we should immediately start the hip PROM within limits (avoid adduction?) with stifle/hock PROM too and gentle weight shifting exercises. I'm assuming that walking would be reserved to just slow on leash wal...

dislocated hip - how long to wait before starting rehab
Does anyone have experience on how long a dog should remain in an Ehmer sling following hip dislocation? And....once the dog is out of the sling, what is the protocol for starting with PROM? I definitely have a fear of causing a repeat luxation even with gentle PROM. But my suspicion is, if careful ...

Re: Post Op Achilles Laceration
Hi Laurie I have a question to add on regarding Achilles post injury rehabilitation. As soon as the cast comes off, can you start some gentle hamstring stretching (within comfort)? I imagine most dogs stay in the cast until the repair phase is primarily complete (about 4 weeks?) and the cast comes o...

Re: gastrocnemius avulsion
Oops, pressed send a little too fast. Other strengthening exercises could include: 1) dog putting front legs up on owner's chest and walking forward should the hips allow this (might be too hard given his age and the hip OA). 2) backwards walking. Do you have any other strengthening exercises you wo...

Re: gastrocnemius avulsion
Hi Laurie That is a great idea of managing the soft tissue compensation issues of the iliopsoas and the sartorius. I am attaching the xrays. As for strengthening the lateral gastrocnemius muscle, I can think of: putting the dog's front legs up on a fairly elevated surface and having the dog reach fo...
